Docker for mac kubernetes. Amazon S3 is an inexpensive cloud storage service that you may use for online backup as well as for hosting static resources of your website like web images, Flash video, audio files, etc.
Amazon built the service primarily for web developers and that partially explains why they didn’t care about providing a web interface or some sort of desktop application to at least help their non-techie users organize S3 files more easily.
Third-party developers then jumped in and, as a result, we now have some brilliant Amazon S3 Clients (lot of them are free) that make S3 account management almost as easy as managing files in Windows Explorer. But since choices can lead to confusion, here’s a quick round-up to help you pick the right client for Amazon S3 with CloudFront.
The Best Amazon S3 Tools for Windows, Mac & Linux
S3 Browser – With S3 Browser, you can manage buckets and files on multiple S3 accounts from the same interface. You can edit custom headers of individual files /folders and there’s a progress bar to indicate the transfer status of file transfers in real time. S3 Browser comes in a portable version as well for use on USB drives but the program is free for personal use only.
Cross FTP Tweetdeck for mac. – This is also an FTP client so you also upload or download files from Amazon S3 storage like the traditional FTP file transfer ($25). You can create buckets, set access control or even change the CloudFront distribution settings of individual files with Cross FTP. unique feature is scheduled batch transfer – you may put any number of files in a queue and upload them to S3 in one go later.
S3 for Live Writer – If you use Windows Live Writer for writing your blog and use Amazon S3 for hosting files, this Live Writer plugin may come handy. It will help you upload images, documents and other files to your S3 account directly from Windows Live Writer or you may use it for browsing files that already exist on your Amazon S3 account and insert links to those files into your blog posts.
CloudBerry Explorer – This Windows-only Amazon S3 client is very responsive and has the most beautiful interface of them all. With CloudBerry Explorer, you can connect to multiple S3 accounts simultaneously (shown in separate tabs), set up bucket logging to track usage, control file permissions and also delete (or temporarily disable) CloudFront distributions. The upcoming version of CloudBerry Explorer will also support custom HTTP headers.
Transmit – This is a popular FTP client that also lets you upload, download and manage your online Amazon S3 storage like a native Mac app ($30). You can upload files to either US or European S3 servers but there’s no support for CloudFront. Another Mac only FTP client that has built-in support for S3 is Cyberduck.
WordPress Plugin – This plugin overrides the default WordPress blog settings and all images, podcasts, etc. attached to blog posts are automatically uploaded onto your Amazon S3 buckets. It also adds an 'Amazon S3' to the WordPress interface allowing you to browse S3 files that were not upload via WordPress. The plug can set the HTTP expiration header of your blog images to a future date thus reducing your bandwidth bills.
S3Fox Organizer – This powerful extension integrates Amazon S3 right into your Firefox browser. You may upload or download files from multiple S3 accounts, synchronize local folders with S3, modify Access control policies of buckets or set an expiry data for files such that they become unavailable after a given time. The latest version of S3 Fox can help you help manage S3 CloudFront distributions right from Firefox.
Bucket Explorer – This is the most 'complete' S3 client that’s available for Mac, Windows and Linux ($50). With Bucket Explorer, you can perform almost every S3 operation from the desktop including Bucket Logging, file comparison, batch file transfers, setting ACL and custom headers (meta data). It will also help you manage all your Amazon CloudFront distributions from the desktop itself.
Another unique feature of Bucket Explorer is the recycle bin so that you don’t lose data if you accidental delete a file or a bucket from your S3 account. And the same license provides a command line version of the tool as well for power users.
Gladinet – This will mount your Amazon S3 folders to your Windows Explorer and you can therefore interact with S3 buckets / files as if you were accessing a local folder. You can drag and drop files in between Amazon S3 online storage and Windows Explorer. Other than S3, Gladinet Cloud desktop also works with Google Docs, Live Skydrive and Picasa.
Mobile Phones: If you need to access /upload Amazon S3 files on a mobile phone, check S3Anywhere for Google Android handsets, OpenS3 for accessing S3 on iPhone / iPod Touch and Bucket Upload for a J2ME device like the Nokia N series or Sony Ericsson cell phones.
Conclusion: Bucket Explorer supports all features of Amazon S3 but if you aren’t willing to spend $50 on an Amazon S3 client, CloudBerry Explorer for Windows is a good choice. If you are using a different platform or need to set up CloudFront with your Amazon S3 account, go with S3 extension for Firefox.

Amazon S3 is an incredibly useful Storage as a Service (SaaS) product, notable for the scalability of its object storage infrastructure which leverages Amazon’s global e-commerce network.
Unlike more consumer-facing products such as Dropbox or Google Drive, Amazon S3 is aimed squarely at developers who are comfortable accessing their storage space using a command-line interface.
Fortunately for those who prefer to manage their files in a more user-friendly way, there are a variety of tools available which allow you to interact with data stored on Amazon S3 cloud servers using a GUI interface.
1. Cloudberry Explorer
- Freeware (with low-cost premium option)
- A versatile range of features
- Managed back-up subscriptions also available
- Windows and macOS
Cons
- Free users must rely on community support
- No Linux support
Our favorite Amazon S3 interface tool is Cloudberry Explorer, in no small part because in its basic form it is freeware!
Even the free version allows users to back up files locally (as well as to S3 servers), export files and folders to zip files, create bootable USBs, retain unlimited file versions, and more. There is a maximum file size limit of 5 GB, but the freeware version of Cloudberry Explorer should provide all the functionality needed for those with modest S3 management needs.
If you run a business with more demanding requirements, the Explorer Pro software costs a one-off fee of just $39.99 (with volume license discounts available). This raises the maximum file size to 5 TB and adds a load of useful features, such as encryption and compression, multi-threading, FTP support, upload rules, search, and more.
Freeware customers must rely on community support, while Pro customers benefit from direct email support from Cloudberry. The company also offers subscription-based managed backup services which can back up data to your Amazon S3 account.
2. CyberDuck
Pros
- Open-source
- 100% free
- OS integration
- Strong client-side encryption
Cons
- A generic client, which lacks in-depth S3-specific functionality
Cyberduck is a free and open-source (FOSS) cloud storage browser for Windows and macOS. It comes with support for Amazon S3, but also supports OpenStack Swift, Backblaze B2, Microsoft Azure & OneDrive, Google Drive and Dropbox accounts. In addition to this, it supports self-hosted solutions that use FTP, SFSP or WebDav.
It provides an attractive GUI interface with which to manage, share, edit (using an editor of your choice) and synchronize files stored in your S3 account. CyberDuck also integrates with your OS to provide features such notifications and Keychain access (in macOS).
A favorite feature of ours is client-side encryption using Cryptomatorvaults. What you don’t get with CyberDuck is in-depth control over your Amazon S3 backend settings, but for managing your files on S3 it is hard to beat.
3.S3 Browser
Pros
- Free for personal use
- Sever-side encryption
- Supports multiple accounts
- Bandwidth throttling
Cons
- Windows-only
This is another dedicated interface tool for managing your Amazon S3 account, albeit one only available for Windows. It provides a simple web interface which offers server-side encryption of files, folder synchronization, bandwidth throttling, and support for multiple accounts.
It also allows you to share buckets with other S3 users, provides file versioning, file backup, and much more.
S3 Browser is free for personal use only. Businesses should purchase an S3 Browser Pro license, but this is available for the very reasonable price of $29.95 (with volume discounts). The Pro version adds a bunch of features, including an advanced ACL viewer and editor, a web URL generator, and a metadata viewer. Pro users also enjoy extended priority support.
4. DragonDisk
Pros
- Open-source
- 100% free
- Client-side encryption
- Windows, Mac OS X, Linux
Cons
- No longer actively supported
- File manager only so in-depth control over the S3 API
This powerful and intuitive free Amazon S3 browser is no longer maintained, but can still be downloaded from the official website and remains highly functional. Importantly, in addition to Windows and Mac OS X (compatible with macOS), DragonDisk supports Linux with RPM and Debian packages available.
DragonDisk provides an intuitive Windows-like GUI interface for managing files and performing shell operations on S3 servers. It supports file versioning, file synchronization, URL generation, and transfer using the BitTorrent protocol.
Files can be compressed and encrypted client-side using up to AES-256 encryption.
5. Arq
Lastpass for mac. Pros
- 30-day free trial
- Client-side encryption
- Supports multiple accounts and platforms (not just Amazon s3)
- Windows and macOS
Cons
- A backup utility only
- No Linux support
S3 Browser Client For Mac
Arq is software which allows you to automatically back up files to your Amazon S3 account, rather than being true S3 interface client. As such, it highly configurable provides full file versioning backup with point-in-time recovery of files, and (optional) client-side encryption.
There is no freeware version of Arq, but it does offer a 30-day free trial, after which a one-off fee of $49.99 is required (Arq also offers a subscription-based backup storage, but this will not be of interest to Amazon S3 users).
Arq allows you to backup files to multiple accounts from different services in addition to Amazon S3. This includes Wasabi, Backblaze B2, Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive. It also allows you to back up files to your self-hosted STPT server, NAS server, or external drive.
Final thoughts
S3 Browser For Mac Os
Amazon S3 is a useful web service that offers unlimited storage at a very affordable price. For many users, however, accessing it via the AWS Command-Line Interface (CLI) is akin to having their teeth extracted.
The above tools provide a much more user-friendly way to manage files uploaded to your server space. And most of them are, at least to some extent, free!
